File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

File transfer protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer files from a user’s computer to a server over either the internet or a local network. It enables users to upload, download, edit, or manage files on another server.

FTP uses a client-server setup, where users log in to upload or download files from a server. It allows users to manage, update, or edit files on a server. This includes tasks like creating or deleting files, as well as editing existing files or folders. Basic FTP is unencrypted, making it vulnerable to targeted attacks. There are secured versions of FTP protocols that are safer for organizations that work with private or personal information to use.
